Contested Borders
Non-governmental public action and the technologies of the 'war on terror'

Contested Borders is a two-year research project funded by the Economic and Social Research Council as part of the Non-Governmental Public Action Research Programme. This programme is directed from the Centre for Civil Society at the London School of Economics and its aim is to increase understanding of public action by non-governmental actors.

The Contested Borders project seeks to advance knowledge in this field by focusing on the new technologies of border security in the ‘war on terror’ and asking what implications these technologies have for non-governmental public action in an emerging ‘global civil society’.
